1. About us and these terms
DigitalUnlock (“DigitalUnlock”, “we”, “us”, “our”) designs, builds, hosts and maintains websites for businesses. You can contact us at our support email.
By submitting an enquiry, approving a website design or starting a subscription, you (“you”, “your”) agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
2. Who our services are for
Our services are provided to businesses, including sole traders, partnerships, companies and other organisations, acting for the purposes of their business. By using our services you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that you are authorised to agree to these terms on behalf of your business.
If you are using our services as a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
3. What we provide
- Free website design. We design and build a professional, multi-page website for your business based on the information you give us. There is no charge for the design and build.
- Hosting and support subscription. For £14.99 per month we host your website, keep it online and secure (including an SSL certificate and regular backups), provide a business email address on your domain, carry out ongoing maintenance and provide support by email. Your website includes a built-in editor so you can update basic content such as your text, opening hours and prices yourself.
We may decline any project at our discretion before work begins.
4. Design, previews and revisions
- After you submit your details, we will contact you to gather the information we need about your business.
- Once we have everything we need, we aim to send you a private preview link to your website within 72 hours. This is a target, not a guarantee.
- You get 5 rounds of revisions before your website goes live. A round means one list of changes sent to us together. We will make the changes and send you an updated preview.
- Requests that go beyond the agreed scope, such as a completely new design or significant extra pages or features, may be chargeable, both before and after your website goes live. We will always tell you the cost and get your agreement before doing any paid work.
- We make reasonable efforts to match your preferences, but final creative decisions rest with our designer and we cannot guarantee any specific design outcome.
- If we do not hear from you for 30 days while your website is being designed, we may close the project. There is no charge if this happens.
5. Subscription and payment
- Your hosting and support subscription costs £14.99 per month. It starts on the day your website goes live and is billed monthly in advance. There is no setup fee and nothing to pay up front.
- Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
- Your subscription renews automatically each month until it is cancelled.
- Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies.
- We may change our prices. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
- If a payment fails, we will retry it and contact you. If payment has not been received within 14 days, we may suspend your website and email. If it is still unpaid after 30 days, we may cancel your subscription.
6. Cancelling your subscription
- You can cancel at any time by emailing our support email. There is no minimum term.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Your website and email stay live until then.
- We do not offer refunds for part-months.
- When your subscription ends, your website and business email will go offline. We may permanently delete your website, email accounts and content 30 days after your subscription ends, so please save any emails or content you want to keep before then.
7. Ownership and moving your website
- Any content, photos, logos and business information you give us remain yours.
- While your subscription is active, your website is hosted on our infrastructure.
- If you want to move your website to another provider, you can buy the full website files for a one-time fee of £100. Once paid, we will send you the files and you will have full rights to use, change and host the website anywhere you like.
- If you cancel without paying this fee, your website goes offline and the website files are not provided.
- If we end your subscription for any reason other than your breach of these terms or non-payment, we will provide your website files free of charge on request.
- Some parts of a website, such as fonts, stock images or third-party tools, are licensed by their owners and remain subject to their own licence terms.
- We may show your website in our portfolio and marketing. Just tell us if you would prefer we did not.
8. Domain names and email
- If you already own a domain name, you keep ownership of it.
- If we register a new domain name for your business, we do so on your behalf and will transfer it to you on request if you leave, subject to the domain registrar’s rules.
- Your business email is provided on your domain while your subscription is active and is subject to reasonable storage limits. It must not be used to send spam or bulk unsolicited email.
9. Your content and responsibilities
- You give us a non-exclusive licence to use the content you provide to build, host, display and maintain your website.
- You confirm that you have the right to use everything you send us, including photos, logos and trademarks, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
- You are responsible for making sure the information on your website is accurate and lawful, including your prices, claims, qualifications and registration numbers.
- You agree to cover any losses we suffer as a result of claims that content you provided infringes someone else’s rights or breaks the law.
10. Stock and AI-generated images
If you do not provide your own photos, we may use stock images or create custom images using AI tools on your behalf. You may use these images only in connection with the website we build for you. We cannot guarantee that AI-generated images are unique.
11. Acceptable use
You may not use our services for websites that involve:
- illegal products or services;
- adult content, gambling or weapons;
- spam, phishing, scams or any misleading or deceptive activity;
- anything that is hateful, defamatory or that breaks the law.
We may suspend or remove any website and end any subscription that breaks these terms, without notice or refund.
12. Hosting and availability
We use reasonable efforts to keep your website and email online, secure and backed up. However, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. Websites may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or because of problems with third-party providers such as hosting companies, domain registrars or payment providers, which are outside our control.
13. No guarantee of results
Our services are provided “as is”. While we build every website with search engines and customers in mind, we do not guarantee any particular business results, including Google rankings, website traffic, enquiries or sales.
14. Limitation of liability
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
- Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss of profit, revenue, business, data or goodwill, or for any indirect or consequential loss.
- Subject to the above, our total liability to you for any claim relating to our services is limited to the total amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim arose.
15. Ending our services
We may end our services to you by giving at least 30 days’ notice by email. We may end them immediately if you seriously breach these terms or do not pay what you owe.
16. Your information
We use the information you give us only to provide our services and to contact you about them, in line with UK data protection law. We never sell your details. Payment information is handled by Stripe. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will email you about any important changes at least 30 days before they take effect. If you continue to use our services after that, you accept the updated terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated.
18. General
- These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about our services.
- If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest will still apply.
- If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another business. You may not transfer yours without our written agreement.
19. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any disputes. If your business is based in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
